On January 10 we had an event dedicated to 65th anniversary of birth of Kazakhstani cosmonaut Talgat Musabayev at our American Corner Karaganda. Talgat Musabayev was born on January 7, 1951 in the Kargaly urban settlement, Zhambyl district of Almaty region, Kazakh SSR (Republic of Kazakhstan),is a Kazakh test pilot and former cosmonaut who flew on three spaceflights.
Talgat Musabayev’s two spaceflights were long-duration stays aboard the Russian space station Mir.
His third mission was as Commander of ISS EP-1, which was a visiting mission to the International Space Station. It was launched by Soyuz TM-32, and was landed by Soyuz TM-31 on May 6, 2001, for a total duration of 7 days 22 hours 4 minutes.This visiting mission was notable for carrying the first ever paying space tourist Dennis Tito.
T. Musabayev– Director General of JSC "Kazakhstan-Russian joint venture "Bayterek" (creation of space rocket complex "Baiterek" at the cosmodrome "Baikonur") since 2005.
Since February 10, 2007 – Chairman of the Aerospace Committee of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Since April 11, 2007 – Chairman of the National Space Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan. He has many honours and awards.
Our AC users got a lot of information about his career, spaceflights and his honours. They worked in groups and disscussed the topic. Then each group prepared questions if they would have a chance to ask T. Musabayev. The questions were very interesting. According to our topic we made a book exhibition dedicated to T. Musabayev. There were large number of books: "Ғарышкер", "Талғат Мұсабаев", "Baikonur", magazines: "Астана", "Мирас" , interesting articles about him in newspapers "Три старта Талгата Мусабаева", "Мы землю видим с высоты" and etc. Everybody got acquainted with these information. All of them were involved into the world of Space. Thanks to our AC users for their active participation at Speaking Club.
