On November 12 International book department  organized a round table. The theme of the event was

“N. Nazarbayev the Founder of Sovereign Kazakhstan”. (Н.Ә. Назарбаев - Тәуелсіз мемлекеттің негізін Қалаушы). There were about 15 English speaking users of the library. We prepared a  nice book exhibition.

At first we introduced the participants with biography of our President.

N.A. Nazarbayev was born in 1940 in the village Chemolgan near Alma-Ata. In 1960 he graduated from college in Dneprodzerzhinsk, worked as a metallurgist in the city of  Temirtau. In 1972 became the second secretary of Karaganda regional Communist Party of Kazakhstan. In 1984 he was appointed Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Kazakh SSR.

In September 1989, N.A. Nazarbayev was elected chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic. In March 1990, became President of Kazakhstan.

December 1, 1991 N.A.Nazarbayev was elected president of Kazakhstan, having received almost 99% of votes.  On December 16, 1991, Kazakhstan was proclaimed an independent republic.

N.A.Nazarbayev proposed economic program under which the country by 2015 would have a democratic political system and dynamic ‘mixed’ economy.

In January 1999, N. Nazarbayev was reelected for a second seven-year presidential term.

In 2010 N.A.Nazarbayev opened the first in the last 11 years, OSCE Summit – a meeting of Heads for the participating States of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe – in Astana. Our country had met guests from 56 countries. Many international political issues were resolved at the Summit.

On April 3, 2011 on the off-year presidential elections the people again placed confidence in N.A. Nazarbayev, and he was re-elected as the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

"He comes from a common people" is usually said about the President of Kazakhstan. Nursultan Nazarbayev grew up in a simple rural family, and is well acquainted with the needs of ordinary people.

Everyone appreciated the event, expressed their own opinion and change minds.  The books like:

  • «Independence of Kazakhstan by Foreign Experts’ Views»,
  • “XXI Century will be Kazakhstan’s Century to Celebrate”,
  • “XXI Century: World’s Elite about N. A. Nazarbayev” were very helpful to our event.

Our department joined the events organized by regional research library named after N.V. Gogol. During the decade dedicated to the First President’s Day of the Republic of Kazakhstan we’ve learned much  about our outstanding Leader.
