The day of Spiritual Concord was conceived in Kazakhstan 27 years ago. Then in 1992 in Almaty, on the initiative of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, the first World Congress of Spiritual harmony was held. Its participants adopted the Manifesto, in which they proclaimed October 18 as the Day of Spiritual Concord - the day of a moratorium on conflicts and clashes, the day of the search for reconciliation, the day of mercy and help to one's neighbor. By the way, this day has the status of a national holiday.

 Kazakhstan has found and is successfully implementing its own model of interethnic and interfaith harmony. It is based on the principles of friendship, tolerance and joint achievement of strategic goals.

In unity is our strength. October 18 in Kazakhstan celebrate the day of spiritual harmony. Many meetings and events are timed to this date, one of them was held jointly by representatives of religious faiths and ethno-cultural centers. Together, they discussed the importance of tolerance and the maintenance of peace.

A country of different but equal. Where with respect to a foreign culture. Where the holidays are not divided into “friends” and “strangers”, where together the priest and the imam educate young people. 

In modern realities of worldwide globalization meeting of leaders of world and traditional religions creates wide range of prospects and opportunities for mutual cooperation, promotes crossing violence, religious fanaticism, extremism and terrorism.

The I Congress of leaders of world and traditional religions, which took place in September 2003 in Nur-Sultan with participation of representatives of more than 12 countries, became a benchmark event.

Chance of real dialogue, search for answers to questions relevant for all times and people, settlement of disputes were main ideas of the Forum.

The II Congress of leaders of world and traditional religions under the chairmanship of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan N.A. Nazarbayev took place on September 12-13, 2006 in a new building called “Palace of peace and concord” which was specially constructed for this forum. Nursultan Nazarbayev, speaking at the plenary session of the V Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, expressed an interesting opinion on the possibility of avoiding religious conflicts, living in peace and harmony.

 Now we are on the edge of the Seventh Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions will be held in the capital of Kazakhstan in 2021.

Experience of Kazakhstan demonstrates that route of constructive interchange of views and joint efforts of leaders of world and traditional religions encourage crossing barriers that separate people, approach of cultures, successful promotion of ideas of peace and concord.

The Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan is also carrying out extensive work to maintain public consent. Representatives of all ethnic groups and nationalities work together, meet with the population all year round, small assemblies are also created in educational institutions -more and more schoolchildren and students today want to know their culture, language and traditions.
