On 5th of June ecologists of Kazakhstan celebrate World Environment Day. This holiday is the closest to all humanity, for all citizens of Kazakhstan. We all live in nature, and its environment influences on our health. People have always polluted their surroundings. But until now pollution was not such a serious problem. With the development of crowded industrial cities such as Oskemen, Karaganda, Temirtau, which put huge amounts of pollutants into small areas, the problem has become more important. Automobiles and other new inventions make pollution steadily worse.
Moderator of the event was Ben Taylor (English Language Fellow). Participants discussed environmental problems and its ways of solution. How recycling of materials can be helpful for human life, and how to reduce waste dump. Ben told us a lot of idioms about environment and ecology.
Air, water, and soil are necessary for existence of all living things. But polluted air can cause deadly disease. Polluted water kills fish and other marine life. Fertilizers and pesticides are important for growing crops but they can ruin soil. On polluted soil, food cannot be grown. Factories pollute the air and the water but they provide jobs for people and produce necessary goods. Environmental pollution spoils the natural beauty of our planet and AC users expressed their opinions on how to protect and save our planet. For example, to reduce using plastic bottles, bags and other disposable things.
Thus, people would have to stop using many useful things if they wanted to end pollution immediately. Most people do not want that of course. But pollution can be reduced gradually. Individuals and groups of people can work together to persuade enterprises to stop polluting activities.
In concluding, American Corner users learned many words and idioms. Discussed the pollutions problems. Remembered International Exhibition EXPO- 2018. Spoke about new technologies that can reduce air pollution.
