On Sunday we have discussed National poetry month at our Speaking club with our active AC users.National Poetry Month, which takes place each April, is a celebration of poetry introduced in 1996 and organized by the Academy of American Poets as a way to increase awareness and appreciation of poetry in the United States. This April marks the 20th anniversary of National Poetry Month. Over the years, National Poetry Month has become the largest literary celebration in the world with schools, publishers, libraries, booksellers, and poets celebrating poetry’s vital place in our culture.

Our event was begun by reading poem of  Walt Whitman “To a stranger”. Active AC user Helena read it by heart. The reading was very emotional. Hereupon everybody shared with their information about famous Kazakh, American, Russian poets such as Abai Kunanbayev, Gertrude Stein, Sergei Yesenin, etc.

Then participants continued club by reading and singing poems. Active user of our clubs Aigul sang a song “Kozimnin karasy” of  the great Kazakh poet Abai. Another one read a poem of  Mukhtar Shakhanov in Kazakh language. Sergei read a poem from his childhood. It was very amazing and inspiring. We are grateful to our moderator and AC users for fabulous English Speaking club.
