On January 17 we had a great event at the Speaking club at American Corner Karaganda. The theme was “The greatest Orator for peace and love Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.”

Martin Luther King Day is a federal holiday held on the third Monday of January. It celebrates the life and achievements of Martin Luther King Jr., an influential American civil rights leader. He is most well-known for his campaigns to end racial segregation on public transport and for racial equality in the United States. His most famous address was the "I Have A Dream" speech. He was an advocate of non-violent protest and became the youngest man to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. He was assassinated in 1968.

As usual our AC users get acquainted with his biography, career and worked with new words according to the topic. Hereupon they have discussed his famous speech “I Have a Dream”. AC users worked in 3 groups. Firstly, they have talked about their dream. Secondly, they prepared their own “I Have a Dream” speech .

First group spoke about Pollution of  Environment in our city, the second group told about problem of children upbringing and last team talked about World without War. Their speech was colorful and inspiring.

As his wife Coretta Scot King said: “The King Holiday honors the life and contributions of America’s greatest champion of racial justice and equality, the leader who not only dreamed of a color-blind society, but who also lead a movement that achieved historic reforms to help make it a reality”.
