The United Nations’ (UN) International Anti-Corruption Day aims to raise public awareness of corruption and what people can do to fight it. It is observed on December 9 each year. International Anti-Corruption Day is a time for political leaders, governments, legal bodies and lobby groups to work together against corruption work by promoting the day and the issues that surround this event.
On 20th December our volunteer have discussed International Anti-Corruption Day with AC participants at Speaking club at American Corner Karaganda. As usual, she gave them information about the term “corruption”, its background, symbols. AC users had read and discussed it with each other. They knew that Corruption is an issue that affects all countries around the world. It can refer to the destruction of one’s honesty or loyalty through undermining moral integrity or acting in a way that shows a lack of integrity or honesty. It also refers to those who use a position of power or trust for dishonest gain.
Next task for them was to plan actions against corruption. They worked in groups. Each group told their action plans. Our participants concluded that everybody should say “No” to the corruption. Because, corruption destroys public confidence in the government, reduces its effectiveness and hampers social, economic and spiritual progress of the country. They knew a lot of information about this date and enriched their vocabulary with new words according to the theme. This Event was informative and teaching.
Meanwhile, without an anti-corruption culture in society, public censure of corruption and strong resistance to it, it is impossible to achieve the desired result. Every citizen of Kazakhstan, each family should realize that the fight against corruption is the task for the whole society and for every citizen.
That is why, it is necessary to instill in children love of their country, respect for other people and traditions, pursuit of knowledge and work, decency and honesty from an early age.
