Contest
To highlight Martin Luther King Jr.’s Legacy, the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy Astana is pleased to announce an on-line contest. This contest offers the young students of Kazakhstan the opportunity to learn about and expand their understanding of Civil Rights in the United States through learning and engagement activities.
Eligibility
Participants must be 12-17 years old to enter the contest.
Contestants must be permanent residents/citizens of Kazakhstan residing in Kazakhstan.
This contest is an I HAVE A DREAM competition in honor of MLK Day in the United States, and participants will be asked to create a DREAM board – an inspirational photo/picture collage representing your dreams. The board must contain the following elements:
- Maximum background size about 80cm by 50cm
- Use craft paper, photos, magazine clippings (preferably from an American Corner), and any other items you choose
- Contain 3 key words in English representing your dreams
- Be colorful and creative
THE BOARDS WILL BE JUDGED BASED ON CREATIVITY AND THE CONTESTANT’S ABILITY TO RELAY HIS/HER DREAMS TO THE OBSERVER.

The contest starts on January 8, 2014 and will end on January 20, 2014. The deadline for submitting entries is by 23:55 (Astana time), January 20, 2014
To Join the Contest
Email a photo of your DREAM Board and personal information (name, phone number, address including your City) to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. using the subject line “Dream Board” Contest. Only entries submitted via this email will be considered. The entries will be considered as entered when the photo is received at the above email and you get a confirmation.
Evaluation and Prizes
All elements must be present to be eligible for the prize. Photos posted on Facebook and Twitter will not be accepted. The entries will be evaluated by a panel of independent judges; THREE winners will be selected whose photos will be posted to the US Embassy Facebook for public judgment. The photo that gets the most likes on Facebook will be displayed as the US Embassy Facebook cover photo for one week. Each winner will receive an iPod shuffle.
