We are happy to inform you about "Kazakhstan Spelling Bee" contest.

Purpose of the event – popularize the learning of English among Kazakhstani youth.

National “Spelling Bee” contests conducted in many countries, such as: USA, Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Mexico, and many others. “Spelling Bee” is always conducted at American schools. The rules are amazingly simple: the winner is the one who spells correctly English words more than others.

First  round was conducted at Karaganda Regional Universal Scientific Library named after N.V. Gogol on the premises of American Corner on January 21, 2018.

Fifty students presenting Karaganda colleges and universities registered for participating in the contest. They were introduced by the pronouncer Ben Taylor, English Language Fellow in KSTU.

“Spelling Bee” was conducted very interesting and lively and in a healthy spirit of rivalry gave intensity to the competition.The participants – spellers pronounced English words in letters.

Judges:

  • Jordan Bakke (Fulbright English Teaching Assistant),
  • Novik P.V (English and French teacher in specialized “Murager” school)
  • Alpysbaeva S.R. (teacher from KSTU) evaluated the correct spelling.

Ben Taylor pronounced the words to the microphone. Yana Veitsman (timekeeper) followed the time (spelling must not exceed 2 minutes).

All  the participants showed a very high level of knowledge and it was a hard struggle, but the best spellers were revealed. Our congratulations to the winners:

  1. Meruert Sovet – 4th year student of Karaganda State University named after E.A. Buketov,
  2. Alexander Gorbunov – 2ndyear student of Central Kazakhstani Academy
  3. Tatyana Vinnichenko – 3rd year student of Karaganda State University named after E.A. Buketov.
